5 Songs for Your New Year's Workout

When I was in high school, I worked at a farm market. It was hot. The pay was bad. It was the only place hiring. I was glad to have the job.

Working in those disgusting 90+ degree days I discovered something: with the right soundtrack, anything is possible. That's the wisdom that has kept me working out across the years. You can do it. You just need the right music.

Below, you'll find the musical fuel your body needs to get some workouts done and maybe even enjoy them! For the record, I have personally tested each song on this list by adding it to a workout playlist. They all passed!

Warm Up

Part of working out is getting a good mindset. The song is a little slow for the workout itself but its a perfect way to get grateful while you're getting ready!

The Workout

Allison Eide - Liar (Truth Is)

If you don't know who Allison Eide is, you will be a fan after you hear this song. (Go check out her album. Incredible.) The track is upbeat, raw and will give you some swagger as you reach for that weight.

Superchick - One More

it's the oldest song on my list  but also one of the best. Superchick is, hands down, the most uplifting thing you can put on a workout playlist. Nearly every spiritual metaphor translates to your workout so you're getting double motivation. Don't stop at the song. Check out the albums!

Tauren Wells, Mile Minnick - Second to None

Wait for the drop. (No, really.)

Citizens - Surprised

Citizens has an indie/college rock vibe and that doesn't always hit for weightlifting (my preferred exercise) but this song absolutely does. Come for the catchy beat but stay for the lyrics!

Young Presley - Dancing Out the Tomb

An artist that is new to me but I still liked it. Workouts need some dancing.

Bonus

Brandon Lake, Skema Boy - No Idols

This song was a late addition. A friend texted me this morning and asked if I had heard of it. I took it for a spin at the Y and I'm glad I did!

Strings & Heart - Oasis for My Soul

Since I was adding bonus songs, this had to make the list. It feels like summer in my ears even in the middle of winter.
