So...tired...

You too? This season we are in has me feeling weary. I thought we were entering a sprint back in March. I was a sprinter in high school track. You focus on the finish line, run with everything you have, don’t look to your left or right. But…this has been a marathon. We can’t see the finish line. I’m terrible at marathons. I was reading in Isaiah 40 earlier: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Thank you, God, for that. Carry us, Lord, and offer us YOUR strength.) Are you reading the latest book in Summer Reading For Grown Ups? “Mothers, Daughters, Sisters”...…that’s the title of chapter ten in “Captivating,” by John and Stasi Eldredge. If you’re not there yet, I probably don’t need to offer a spoiler alert for this one. These are important roles. We are built for those roles. We need each other. At the beginning of this book, we learned that women tend to see themselves based on their relationships. Something is off between you and your mom? A friend? You and your child? Nothing stresses us out more than knowing one of our relationships is wonky. We want it healed. “When women gather, they ask meaningful questions. They want to know how you ARE. Recipe swapping is all well and good, gardening hints helpful, but women friends unabashedly dive into matters of the heart.” (Stasi Eldredge) And so my prayer for YOU is that you have great friends, with whom you can be honest! If you don’t, find some. My daughter moved to a new city, and used an app (Bumble BFF) to find new friends. I’m glad she knew it was important. We will be wrapping up this book soon. If you’re just picking it up, please continue reading, and please share with me YOUR thoughts. That’s what it’s all about. I’m so glad we can read a couple books together this summer. Bob Wheatley, The Wheatley Reader, has our final book picked out. Next week he will reveal it. I know it will be GOOD!
