Find Out What a Beautiful Day Looks Like

We have a sign in our house that says, “Today is a Beautiful Day.” It’s simple, but it’s a good reminder for the days I stress about the things that don’t matter. Today is a gift from God. Today is a beautiful day.

For one village in Zambia, today truly is a beautiful day. They just received a brand new well that will provide clean water for years to come, and we had the honor of being there for the well’s debut.

A group of children gathered around as we walked to the well. They had witnessed the well being drilled. They watched as the pump was built and the cement was poured, and now, they were about to have clean water for the first time in their lives.

Wally's wife, Mardi, officially christened the well and drew the first few drops. We all took turns pumping water as the kids collected it in their hands, drank some, and splashed the rest on their faces. Their joy was contagious. They may be young, but they know that this moment will change their lives for the better.

We finished celebrating the new well, and as we turned to leave, the children followed us to the car. One girl kept repeating one word over and over again with a huge smile on her face. The translator told me she was saying “Water! Water!” He asked her what she meant, and she said, “We’re very happy because getting water before was very difficult.”

Elsewhere in Zambia, children are dying at an alarming rate due to water related diseases. It’s easy to get caught up in the sad statistics, but remember, today is a beautiful day. It’s a beautiful day for the village that just received life-changing water. It’s a beautiful day because we get to fight the sad statistics. It’s a beautiful day because you and I have the amazing opportunity to provide more beautiful days to this country in desperate need of clean water.

Today is a beautiful day.
