Thoughts on the Passing of Fred Phelps

From: Marcia WareOkay, I’ve had a chance to sit and think about the passing of Fred Phelps. Here we go:
Fred Phelps has died. And for the briefest of moments, I felt led to repent of my very first thoughts: “Who is going to picket HIS funeral? How much payback will these hatemongers get?” But then I read the following post on FB(also seen in the previous post on my timeline): “If I had the money, I would go to his funeral with messages of forgiveness and hope. Because *this* is the hard part of being a Christian. It is easy to hate him, to rejoice in his passing. But we are called to something different.”
It is an interesting thing to ponder…what exactly Mr. Phelps experienced the moment he entered eternity. In truth, my heart is a little fearful for him. But there are two immutable truths that come to my heart: first of all, there is NO DOUBT in my mind that Fred Phelps now sees EVERYTHING clearly. And while it’s still called Today, I’m more moved than ever to live a more compassionate, Christ-centered existence while I still walk this earth…I do sincerely pray that whatever peace he never seemed to have in life, he’s now found.
