Why Uganda is Good for Wally's Prayer Life

It has been a few years since I have been to Uganda, and it is so nice to be back. The people are soft spoken and kind, and joy is prevalent, even though they are surrounded by poverty.
As we started the 6 hour car ride to Rukungiri, I began to pray for a safe trip. That is because traveling on the roads here is a constant game of "chicken" with only inches, at times, separating you from a head-on collision.
I realized that I have spent more time in prayer in the last 24 hours since arriving in Africa than I probably did all last week. Why is that?
I think it comes down to resources. Having good resources diminishes my reliance on God. At home, I know if I get sick, I have access to medicine or doctors to easily and instantly fix me.
In Africa, resources are so scarce that you begin the day praying for protection and provision, and I find myself in a constant state of prayer throughout the day. I have to say, it feels really good. In fact, it's part of what has been missing in me back home.
This was a great reset for me as we begin our trip with Blood Water. I often forget that reliance is not weakness, but it is something that connects us on a much deeper level to God. This is something the people here in Uganda know instinctively, but I had to fly halfway around the world to be reminded of it.

Next week, I am excited that together we can be the answer to the physical part of their prayers for God's provision.
As a side note, we did get to do something fun on the way and mark something off of Zach's bucket list by standing on both sides of the equator. It is weird, though, because I always thought the equator line was red.
