Joy here and this is a question that all women have asked themselves. In fact, I used to ponder this question several times a day!
What would your response be?
Not what category would society put you in, what category would you choose for yourself?
The obvious answer would be BEAUTIFUL, but so many women in Dove's new video experiment chose to qualifies themselves as AVERAGE.
WHY do we do this to OURSELVES?!
I am guilty of this too. Before anyone else can decide what's wrong with me, I've already pointed it out to myself. I act as if knowing my short comings and my flaws will protect me from feeling hurt when someone else notices them too. But this is dangerous thinking. It has only lead me deeper down the path of insecurity. How can someone else find us beautiful if we do not even see it ourselves?
Webster's Dictionary defines BEAUTY as, "the quality of being physically attractive." However, I think beauty is much deeper than your physical appearance.
Beauty radiates from knowing who you are in Christ. It has nothing to do your weight or your makeup and everything to do with your character.
It took me a long time to figure that out. I struggled with some very awkward years growing up and I have always had a negative body image. I thought other women were beautiful but that was never a word I would use to describe myself!
However, God has been working on changing my perspective. He has been whispering to my heart what He truly thinks of me. Beauty is a combination of confidence, kindness, and peace. Since God made me in His image then I am made beautiful! If the creator of the universe says that I am beautifully and wonderfully made, then who am I to argue? God's opinion is really the only one that matters.
You can decide that you are average but it doesn't change the truth that you are not. God has placed specific gifts within you that make you unique and unlike anyone else. He created you to be beautiful so embrace it, rest in it, and walk through that "Beautiful" door!
