The Power of Remembering: How to Document God’s Goodness This Year

That’s a big photo!
I hear this often when people walk into my home. Directly inside the front door is a framed photo of my husband and me smiling. My phone was in my hand because we had just electronically signed the papers to buy our home. It was such a sweet moment after being outbid over and over on other homes and even being turned down from our current home at first. We were about to take a break from home shopping when God opened the door (literally and figuratively) for our home. My Christian counselor encouraged me at the time to document this answered prayer in a way I could remember it. I chose to print out that photo and put it in an obvious place that we would see daily.
Truth is, I rarely even look at that picture anymore. I am so used to it being there. However, homes require maintenance and repairs that can be pricey. Each time something breaks and I feel so annoyed at our home, I notice the photo. It simply reminds my heart and mind that I am living in an answered prayer. It doesn’t mean it’s always easy, but our home is a blessing. Period! Sure, it will cost us money and cause us some headaches, but a prominent photo of God’s faithfulness helps me see it all through a lens of gratitude.
It doesn’t have to be a photo for you, but could be anything that memorializes a moment. Put it somewhere prominent for you to see it regularly. “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love.” This song always reminds me of the state of our hearts. We tend to forget the goodness of God. The enemy wants you to think you are in this alone and God will not come through for you. So document the times He has! Let this be the year that you document His love for you. – Joy
