Questions about our Christmas music?

Each year WAY-FM plays Christmas music during the holiday season. The results have been overwhelmingly positive. Many who have never tuned into a radio station like WAY-FM have made it their new, favorite radio station after Christmas.  Here are the most Frequently Asked Questions that we receive about our Christmas music… Q:  Why does WAY-FM play all Christmas music? A:   We find that carefully selected Christmas music brings people together, and brings back great memories.   Q:  Why do I hear songs from artists that I normally don’t hear on WAY-FM? A:  We hope to offer a diverse selection of Christmas music, keeping in mind that there are many Christmas classics to which our listeners attach warm memories. So, a good mix of Christmas music is kind of like cleaning and decorating your house because you want new guests to feel welcomed and right at home.   Q:  Why do I hear songs about mistletoe and holly, reindeer and even Santa Claus? A:  The primary focus of WAY-FM’s music is about Jesus and His birth. However, many listeners have warm childhood memories attached to songs about reindeer, mistletoe and Santa. St. Nicholas (Santa Claus) is a figure that many associate with Christmas. Nicholas was a Christian man who loved children and his neighbors, and spent his life privately giving gifts to the unfortunate. These acts of Christian charity, usually made secretly, probably led to the practice of exchanging gifts at Christmas. Nicholas gave to others expecting nothing in return, a reflection of the gift of God’s selfless love in the gift of a Savior. Dr. James Dobson, Focus on the Family, offers another perspective: “Christmas memories are among the most cherished of all my childhood reminiscences. Santa Claus coming on Christmas Eve was an important part of the fun. I’m reluctant to deprive today’s kids of an experience that was so exciting for me. On the other hand, I understand the concerns expressed by many Christian parents…  …So, this is the dilemma: Santa is fun, but Santa could be confusing. My wife, Shirley, and I chose to also include Santa with our kids, and we had no difficulties teaching them who Jesus was and is. Other families regret mixing the two images. What is best? I don’t know. But if I had to do it over, I would still let my children thrill to the excitement of Santa’s arrival down the chimney on Christmas Eve.

Our hope is to grow the WAY-FM community so that more people can experience strength and joy.

That’s where you come in. You have a unique opportunity to share the gift of Christmas music with someone you know.

Thank you for considering who you might invite to listen this year as WAY-FM plays Christmas music Thanksgiving night through Christmas night.

Merry Christmas!
